Sounders Sign Schmid To Contract Extension Through 2015 Season

Major League Soccer's Seattle Sounders announced Thursday they have signed their inaugural coach, Sigi Schmid, to a contract extension through the 2015 season.

Schmid became the team's first coach December 16, 2008 after coming from MLS' Columbus Crew.

He has led the Sounders to back-to-back Lamar Hunt US Open Cup championships and the team in currently in the semifinals en route to a possible threepeat. Schmid also led the Sounders to MLS Cup playof berths in 2009 and 2010.

Seattle currently has the second-highest point total in the league behind the defending MLS Western Conference regular season and Supporters Shield champion Los Angeles Galaxy.

The league's all-time leader in regular season and postseason wins, Schmid has led the Galaxy, Crew and Sounders to a combined two MLS Cups, two MLS Supporters Shields and three LHUSOC titles.
