Major League Soccer's Seattle Sounders Saturday signed former Toronto FC midfielder Amadou Sanyang from Gambia to a contract.
Sanyang, turning 20 this Monday, signed with Toronto at age 17, but played in their youth academy until turning 18, the legal age to play in MLS.
He played 14 minutes as a substitute in a game against the New England Revolution on his 18th birthday August 1, 2009, then started two weeks later against DC United.
In 20 regular season games over two seasons, he started 15.
Sanyang's career started in his native country in 2007 when he led Real de Banjul to the championship title in the first division and was named the league's Midfielder of the Year.
He also played for his country's U-17 and U-20 national teams.
