Alvaro Saborio had a pair of goals and Fabian Espindola and Kyle Beckerman added goals as host Real Salt Lake routed the San Jose Earthquakes 4-0 in Major League Soccer play Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, UT.
Saborio helped the Earthquakes force themselves to play with 10 men when the referee felt San Jose's Bobby Burling deliberately bumped him to get Burling red carded, allowing RSL to score all their goals in the final 27 minutes of regularion play.
The win extended RSL's unbeaten streak to seven games, while the Earthquakes' losing streak is now at eight.
RSL is in fourth place in the Western Conference standings at 9-3-6 with 33 points and will host the co-Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia Union next Saturday.
San Jose is in seventh place in the conference at 5-7-9 with 24 points and will host DC United next Sarurday at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, CA.
