Ottawa Snags Three Of Five 2011 W-League Individual Awards

It should come as no big surprise that the Ottawa Fury, who became the fifth team in league history to finish a regular season unbeaten and untied, took home three of the five 2011 USL W-League individual awards handed out during Thursday's Championship Banquet in Seattle, in advance of the 2011 Championship Weekend Friday and Sunday at the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, WA.

Mallory Outerbridge, who won the 2011 Goals (17) and Scoring Championship (37) was named the league's Most Valuable Player.

Amanda Fancher, who has a goal and three assists for the Fury this season, was named the Defender of the Year, defeating defending award-winner Sue Weber of the Long Island Rough Riders.

Finally, Dominic Olivieri was named the Coach of the Year. Olivieri has led the Fury to eight straight divisional titles and a 91-6-7 regular season record, including this season's 12-0-0 mark.

Rookie of the Year honors went to Sydney Leroux of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, who had 11 goals and two assists in 11 games this season for the Western Conference champions. Leroux, who beat out Lindsey Horan of the Colorado Rush for the award, is the all-time scoring leader for the US U-20 women's national team with 30 goals in 36 games.

Finally, Cynthia Jacobo of the Santa Clarita Blue Heat, who led the league in saves with 85 and was tied for second in wins (eight) and shutouts (five), was named the Goalkeeper of the Year. She played every minute of every game for the Blue Heat as she prepares for her junior year playing at Cal State Northridge.

The 2011 W-League Championship Weekend presented by Umbro takes place Friday with semifinal play -- Vancouver Whitecaps FC versus the Atlanta Silverbacks in the first game, the host Sounders against the undefeated Fury in the nightcap.

Semifinal losers meet Sunday in the consolation game, with Friday's winners battling for the title in the second game.
