Macheda Rallies Manchester United Over MLS' Revolution In WFC Opener

Federico Macheda scored goals in the 54th and 61st minute off assists by Michael Carrick and Rafael as Manchester United of the English Premier League defeated Major League Soccer's New England Revolution 4-1 in the opening game of the 2011 Herbalife World Football Challenge Wednesday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA.

Carrick also assisted on Michael Owen's 51st minute goal to open the scoring after a quiet first half and Ji-Sung Park was fed a pass by Ryan Giggs for an 80th minute strike.

New England tied the game two minutes after Macheda's first goal as Benny Feilhaber assisted Kenny Mansally.

The win gave ManU six points in the tournament standings -- three points for the regulation win and three bonus points for each of their first three goals. New England gives the MLS Eastern Conference a 0-1-0 record with no points.

The Revolution, playing their only game of the tournament, return to league play Sunday when they host the Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia Union.
