The Laredo Heat became the 2011 USL Premier Development League Southern Conference Champion, upsetting the host Mississippi Brilla, 7-6 in a penalty kick shootout after both teams played to a 2-2 draw after 120 minutes Saturday at Harper Davis Field at Millsaps College in Jackson, MS and have advanced to the 2011 USL PDL Championship Weekend presented by Umbro next weekend.
Armando Begines assisted Felix Garcia on an 11th minute goal, then scored the game-tying goal unassisted in the 116th minute.
Mississippi tied the game at 1-1 in second-half stoppage time when Anteneh Lemma fed a pass to David Palmer, then took the lead in the first extra time period as Mike Azira assisted Mat Luak on a goal.
