Eagles Soar Over FC New York At Belson Stadium

Jorge Herrera and Alan Sanchez had unassisted goals in the 10th and 22nd minute, respectively, as the Charlotte Eagles defeated FC New York 3-1 Monday in a Fourth of July USL PRO game at Belson Stadium at St. John's University in Queens, NY.

New York's Karsten Smith also added an own goal for the Eagles in the 33rd minute.

Team scoring leader Jhonny Arteaga scored for New York in the 84th minute for Joey Tavernese to avoid a shutout.

The Eagles, 6-5-3 with 21 points and in fifth place in the National Division, play a home-and-home serires this weekend with the Richmond Kickers, playing at City Stadium in Richmond, VA Friday, then hosting Sunday at Charlotte Christian Stadium.

FC New York, 4-7-5 with 17 points, is in fourth place in the American Division and have games scheduled this Friday at Sahlen's Stadium in Rochester, NY against the Rochester Rhinos, then at the Pittsburgh Riverhounds' Chartiers Valley High School Saturday.
