Christy Welsh scored in the 12th minute off a Danielle Malagan assist and Amalya Clayton extended the lead in the 46th minute with help from Katie Watson as host DC United Women got past the Long Island Rough Riders 2-1 in USL W-League play Thursday at the Maryland SoccerPlex.
Jen Leaverton put the Rough Riders on the scoreboard in the 66th minute off a pass from Brooke DeRosa.
DC United Women are now 3-3-2 with 11 points and are in third place in the Eastern Conference's Northeast Division standings. They will host the New Jersey Rangers next Friday.
Long Island is 4-1-2 with 14 points and tied for the division lead with the New Jersey Wildcats at 4-0-3. The Rough Riders will face off at the Rangers' Morris Catholic High School Sunday.
