Thomas Zimmerman assisted Ryan Gracia on a 30th minute goal, then scored a goal four minutes later off a Travis Pittman assist as host Fredericksburg Hotspur pulled of a 3-0 shutout upset over the Real Maryland Monarchs in USL Premier Development League play Monday at the University of Mary Washington.
Shane Johnson also scored for Fredericksburg in the 54th minute off a Hunter Hayes connection.
The expansion Hotspur ended a four-game, season-opening losing streak, but are tied for last place in the Eastern Conference's South Atlantic Division with the Virginia Beach Piranhas (1-3-0), who hosts them Saturday.
The Monarchs, who ended a four-game winning streak, still lead the division at 4-1-0 with 12 points and will host the West Virginia Chaos Saturday.
