The Wichita Wings of the Major Indoor Soccer League, who agreed to be operated as part of United Soccer Leagues earlier Monday, announced the hiring of former player LeBaron Hollimon as head coach of the 2011-12 expansion franchise.
After starting his professional indoor soccer career in 1991 as a second-round draft pick of the Tulsa Ambush of the National Professional Soccer League, he became the first native Wichita person to sign for and play with the Wings, where she stayed from 1992 to 1999 and finished his career in the top five in every major statistical category.
He then moved to the NPSL's Edmonton Drillers in 2000 for one season and played in 54 of 55 regular season games and was named the team's Defensive Player of the Year.
His playing career ended in 2001 with the NPSL's Kansas City Attack and has since coached a number of local club soccer teams.
In 2008, Hollimon was inducted into the Kansas Soccer Hall of Fame.
