USWNT Star Nairn Highlights Signings By DC United Women

DC United Women, who took over the schedule of the departing Washington Freedom Futures in the 2011 season of the USL W-League, announced the signing of four players Friday, the highlight of which is Penn State University and US Women's National Team member Christine Nairn, who played her entire youth soccer career with Freestate Soccer Club.

Nairn has been a member of the USWNT's player pool since 2009, a member of the US U-23 women's player pool since 2010, a former co-captain of the US U-20 women's team, a 2010 FIFA U-20 world champion and CONCACAF champion, a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's 2010 All-America Team and a 2009 nominee for US Soccer's Female Youth Athlete of the Year.

The other players signed are Jerica DeWolfe, Danielle Malagari and Tiffany Brown.

DeWolfe had six goals and six assists for 18 points at the University of Dayton last season, putting her second on the team in scoring. Three of her goals were game winners and she was named the Atlantic 10 Conference's Midfielder of the Year, the first time a Flyers player earned the honor. She was also named to the conference's First Team and its All-Championship Team.

Malagari started 36 of 39 games over the last two seasons for the University of Maryland and led the defense to posting 13 shutouts in 2004 and 2005.

Brown played four seasons at Colorado College and finished as their top game player, in the top five all-time in goals and points, and in the top 10 in assists. She played in all 80 games, starting 74, and led the team in scoring three out of four seasons. She tried out for the expansion Western New York Flash of Women's Professional Soccer, but turned down a spot on their training squad to play for United head coach Mike Jorden, who was her former youth team coach.

DC United Women open their inaugural season in the W-League on the road May 25 against the 2005 league champion New Jersey Wildcats, then host the Wildcats at the Maryland Soccerplex June 9.
