USL To Merge I-League With MISL For 2011-12 Season

United Soccer Leagues announced Monday they have reached an agreement with the Major Indoor Soccer League to operate the league beginning in the 2011-12 season.

USL had previously announced plans to revive the I-League this November and had announced franchises in Rochester, NY (Rochester Lancers), Norfolk, VA (Norfolk SharX) and Syracuse, NY (unnamed at this time), but will now add those -- and future teams -- to the new league.

It is not known what name the merged league will be given, but USL announced Chris Economides, senior director over USL's professional leagues, USL PRO and the USL W-League, will serve as the merged league's president.

MISL teams coming on board with the new league are the defending league champion Milwaukee Wave, Baltimore Blast, Missouri Comets and a revived Wichita Wings franchise to be officially announced Monday. The Chicago Riot, who played in the MISL in 2010, were not listed in an official press release about the merger.
