The league announced a revised schedule, available at www.uslsoccer.com, that continues to have the league’s 12 teams play a 24-game schedule, with games previously played against the three Puerto Rican teams still counting in the league standings.
The loss of the Puerto Rican teams caused the league to disband its five-team International Division and move the division’s remaining teams – Antigua Barracuda FC and the Los Angeles Blues – into the league’s American and National Divisions, respectively, and USL PRO now will have two, balanced six-team divisions.
Antigua, who led the International Division at 6-2-0 and 18 points before the expulsion, is now tied for the lead in the American Division with the Richmond Kickers, who are undefeated at 6-0-0 with 18 points.
Los Angeles, who was second in the division at 3-1-1 with 10 points, is now the leader of the National Division.
There have also been changes to league games that will air as the USL PRO Game of the Week on Fridays on Fox Soccer Channel:
- On June 24 at 8 p.m. Eastern time, the Charleston Battery will face the host Wilmington Hammerheads at Legion Field in Wilmington, NC.
- On July 1 at 8 p.m. Eastern time, FC New York will host Antigua Barracuda FC at St John’s University’s Belson Stadium.
- On July 15, at 11 p.m. Eastern time, the Los Angeles Blues will host the Dayton Dutch Lions at Titan Stadium at Cal State-Fullerton.
- Finally, on August 5 at 7 p.m. Eastern time, the Blues will travel to the Hammerheads
The league also announced changes to the postseason format as now eight teams – the top four teams in each division – will advance to four single-elimination Division Semifinals games taking place August 19-21.
Winners will play in single-game Division Finals the next weekend, with those winners playing for the 2011 USL PRO Championship, which will be hosted by the highest remaining seed September 3.
