After ending their 37-game home unbeaten streak with a loss to Monterrey in the second and final leg of the 2010-11 CONCACAF Champions League final, Real Salt Lake saw the end come to their 18-game Major League Soccer unbeaten streak with a 1-0 loss Saturday to the expansion Portland Timbers Saturday at JELD-WEN Field in Portland, OR.
Kenny Cooper scored unassisted for the Timbers in the 22nd minute.
The Timbers are 3-3-1 with 10 points and tied with the defending MLS champion Colorado Rapids (same record) for fourth place in the Western Conference standings. Portland hosts the Philadelphia Union this Friday.
Real Salt Lake, despite the shutout, is 4-1-0 with 12 points and are tied with the Seattle Sounders (3-2-3) for second place in the Western table, four behind the Los Angeles Galaxy (4-1-3, 15) for the conference lead and the league's best record. RSL hosts Chivas USA next Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium.
