Stars Shutout Winless Silverbacks

Neil Hlavaty headed a pass to Jeff Cosgriff in the 17th minute, then converted a penalty kick in the 56th minute as the NSC Minnesota Stars shut out the winless Atlanta Silverbacks 3-0 in North American Soccer League play Saturday from the National Sports Center in Blaine, MN.

Lucas Rodriguez had an insurance goal for the Stars in the 66th minute and the team, at 2-1-3 with six points, are tied for fourth place in the standings with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers and FC Tampa Bay, both 1-2-3, who both had a scheduled game at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg, FL Saturday postponed due to inclement weather and rescheduled for later this season.

The Stars will host the Puerto Rico Islanders this Wednesday.

Atlanta is in last place in the league standings at 0-5-1 with a point and will be off until May 28 when they travel to Cary, NC to face the league-leading Carolina RailHawks (5-1-1).
