Carlos Ruiz fired off a game-winning unassisted goal in the 74th minute as the host Philadelphia Union defeated the Chicago Fire 2-1 Saturday at PPL Park in Chester, PA and gave the Union the best record in the Eastern Conference standings at 5-3-2 with 17 points.
After a scoreless first half, both teams used a four-minute stretch of the second half to tie the game as Michael Farfan scored for the Union off a Kyle Nakazawa assist in the 64th minute and Chicago countered in the 68th minute when Gonzalo Segares fed a pass to Dominic Oduro.
The Union travels to Toronto FC next Saturday.
The Fire, eighth in the Eastern Conference at 1-4-5 with eight points, hosts the San Jose Earthquakes next Saturday.
