Emilio Renteria had a penalty kick goal in the 50th minute, then, with help from Dejan Rusmir and Dilly Duka, scored again in the 59th minute to lead the Columbus Crew to a 2-1 Major League Soccer victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps Saturday at Crew Stadium.
Vancouver's goal came in the 69th minute as Terry Dunfield and Alain Rochat teamed to get the ball to Omar Salgado for the score.
Columbus, at 3-1-3 with 12 points, is tied with the Houston Dynamo (same record) for third place in the Eastern Conference standings. The Crew host the Seattle Sounders next Saturday.
Expansion Vancouver is 1-4-3 with six points for eighth place in the Western Conference. After the Whitecaps host the Montreal Impact of the North American Soccer League in the second leg of their Nutrilite Canadian Championship semifinal series Wednesday, they will travel next Saturday to Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL to face the Chicago Fire.
