Real Salt Lake Beats Chivas USA, Loses Morales For "A Minimum Of Four Months"

Will Johnson's 81st minute goal off Nat Borchers gave Real Salt Lake a 1-0 victory Saturday over Chivas USA in Major League Soccer play from Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, UT, but RSL also lost the services of midfielder Javier Morales to a broken ankle for "a minimum of four months", according to team doctor Andrew Cooper, after he was roughly tackled by Chivas' Marcos Mondaini in the 38th minute.

Mondaini was issued an immediate red card, causing his ejection and carrying an automatic one-game suspension and $250 fine, with further punishment possible from the MLS Disciplinary Committee next week after video footage of the game is reviewed.

Morales will have surgery Monday, Dr. Cooper said after the game.

RSL is now 5-1-0 with 15 points and in second place in the Western Conference standings, two points behind the conference-leading Los Angeles Galaxy (4-2-4, 16), the defending Supporters Shield champion, and will host the Houston Dynamo next Saturday.

Chivas USA, forced to play with nine players, fell to 2-3-3 with nine points and are in seventh place in the Western Conference. They will travel next Sunday to the New York Red Bulls.
