Reading United Welcomes Back Hedges, Gaddis; Signs Four Newcomers

Reading United AC of the USL Premier Development League announced Monday they have re-signed Matt Hedges and Raymon Gaddis for the 2011 season and added four newcomers -- Kirk Urso, Brian Span, San Garza and Stephen Okai.

Hedges and Gaddis were part of the 2010 roster who advanced to the semifinals of the PDL National Championship tournament.

Hedges played his first three college seasons at Butler, ending with a 2010 Second Team All-American selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, before transferring to North Carolina after his Butler head coach Kelly Finley left the school to take a similar position at North Carolina State.

Gaddis, from the University of West Virginia, and Hedges were part of a United backline that allowed one goal in the team's first six 2010 season games.

Urso played for the US U-17 national team at the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup and scored a goal against Belgium that sent the team into the second round of the tournament. At North Carolina, where he will become captain this fall, he has five goals and five assists in 2010.

Span, a member of the US U-17 Residency Program, started 18 of 20 games as a freshman at the University of Virginia and had 13 points on five goals and three assists.

Garza plays on the US U-20 Men's National Team and for the University of California-Santa Barbara. After suffering a serious injury while playing in the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt, Garza came back to score 21 points on eight goals and four assists in 2010 for UCSB.

Okai, a native of Ghana who played on their U-15 and U-17 national teams, was a 2010 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics All-American as a sophomore.

Reading United AC opens their 2011 USL PDL season May 15 against the New Jersey Rangers at Exeter High School in Exeter, PA.
