For the fifth straight game, the defending Major League Soccer champion Colorado Rapids played a full 90 minutes, only to walk off the pitch with a draw and a point in the Western Conference standings, this time in a 1-1 draw with the worst team in the league, Sporting Kansas City, Saturday at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, CO.
Colorado took the lead in 13th minute off an unassisted Conor Casey goal, but Kansas City, on a 10-game road trip to start the season, countered in the 75th minute when Teal Bunbury assisted Ryan Smith on a goal.
The Rapids (4-3-5, 17 points) are in a four-way tie for third place in the Western Conference standings with Real Salt Lake (5-1-2), the Seattle Sounders (4-4-5) and the expansion Portland Timbers (5-3-2) and will host the current Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia Union next Saturday.
Kansas City, at 1-6-1 with four points and dead last in the Eastern Conference standings, will travel to BMO Field next Saturday to play Toronto FC.
