Yannick Smith tallied Virginia Beach's goal in the 56th minute off a Tommy Webb assist to avoid being shut out.
West Virginia leads the Eastern Conference's South Atlantic Division with a 3-1-0 record and nine points. The Chaos will host the Real Maryland Monarchs this Friday.
Virginia Beach, at 1-2-0 with three points, is tied for fourth place in the division table with expansion Fredericksburg Hotspur (same record) and will travel to the Carolina Dynamo next Saturday.
