Alexandre Morfaw was assisted on a 16th minute goal by Cornelius Stewart and scored on a penalty kick in the 49th minute as the host Vancouver Whitecaps Residency earned their first win of the 2011 USL Premier Development League season 2-1 over the Abbotsford Mariners at Empire Field.
Abbotsford scored on a last-minute pass from Daniel Lowen to Mark McQuade.
The Residency are 1-1-0 with three points and tied for second place in the Western Conference - Northwest Division with the Victoria Highlanders (same), who Vancouver plays next Saturday at Victoria's Bear Mountain Stadium.
Abbotsford lost its 2011 PDL season opener and is tied with the defending league champion Portland Timbers U-23s (0-1-0) for last place. The Mariners host the Highlanders Sunday at Bateman Park.
