Sebastien Le Toux's penalty kick in the 76th minute was all the Philadelphia Union needed to shut out the San Jose Earthquakes Saturday in Major League Soccer play from PPL Park in Chester, PA.
The Union are 4-1-1 with 13 points and are two points behind the New York Red Bulls (4-1-2, 14) from the lead in the Eastern Conference. Philadelphia will face the Portland Timbers at JELD-WEN Field this Friday.
San Jose is in last place in the Western Conference at 1-4-2 with five points. The Earthquakes will face Portland on the road Tuesday in a 2011 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup play-in game, then return to league play May 11 at Empire Field against the host Vancouver Whitecaps.
