Islanders Needed OT To Advance To CFU Championship Game; Earn Spot In 2011-12 CCL

The North American Soccer League's Puerto Rico Islanders scored two goals in a two-minute span of overtime to defeat Alpha United FC of Guyana 3-1 in the semifinal of the Caribbean Football Union Championship tournament Wednesday at Providence Stadium in Guyana to earn a spot in the championship game Friday against Haiti's Tempete FC and a berth in the field for the 2011-12 season of the CONCACAF Champions League.

Matthew Bouraee scored first for Puerto Rico in the 22nd minute, then, after Alpha United tied the score in regulation play, Jonathan Fana broke the tie with a goal in 113th minute and David Foley followed with an insurance goal in the 115th minute.

Tempete FC defeated Defense Force of Trinidad & Tobago 4-3 in penalty kicks after both teams went 120 minutes without scoring.

Puerto Rico returns to NASL play this Wednesday when they host the NSC Minnesota Stars at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium in Bayamon, PR.
