The North American Soccer League announced Monday Montreal Impact forward Ali Gerba and goalkeeper Bill Gaudette were named the league's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, after leading their team to their first win of 2011, a 5-0 rout of FC Edmonton at Foote Field in Edmonton Sunday.
Gerba had two of the team's goals for his seventh regular season multi-goal game of his career and he is now seventh on the Impact's all-time scoring list.
Gaudette had seven saves and faced 11 shots in Sunday's shutout.
The Impact have not given up a goal in the last 235 minutes of regular season play.
Montreal will travel to Empire Field Wednesday to take on Major League Soccer's Vancouver Whitecaps in the second game of their 2011 Nutrilite Canadian Championship semifinal series, with Vancouver winning the first leg of the two-leg, total goals series 1-0. The winner of this series meets the winner of the other semifinal between MLS' Toronto FC and NASL's Edmonton in a final series to determine Canada' entry into the 2011-12 CONCACAF Champions League competition.
After that, the Impact will play an exhibition game at Saputo Stadium in Montreal May 11 against MLS' New York Red Bulls before returning to NASL play May 14 at Saputo against the Carolina RailHawks.
