The defending USL Premier Development League champion Portland Timbers U-23s, who went through the 2010 season undefeated at 20-0, started defense of their crown with their first loss since the 2009 season ended with a 1-0 shutout by the Victoria Highlanders at JELD-WEN Field Saturday.
Andrew Ravenhill assisted Jared Stephens on Victoria's 55th minute goal in both team's season opener.
Victoria next travels Sunday to face the Kitsap Pumas, while the Timbers U-23s next meet the Washington Crossfire on the road next Sunday.
