FC Tampa Bay of the North American Soccer League announced the signing Thursday of goalkeeper Evan Newton on loan from Major League Soccer's Houston Dynamo.
Newton, the seventh overall pick in the 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft, will serve as a backup to rookie goalkeeper Jeff Attinella, who replaced starter Daryl Sattler after Sattler suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in Saturday's draw against the Atlanta Silverbacks.
Newton graduated from Old Dominion University as the school's all-time saves and shutouts leader.
FC Tampa Bay hosts the Carolina RailHawks this Saturday at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg, FL.
