Del Rio Goal Gives Independence Edge Over Beat

Laura Del Rio had a game-winning goal in the 73rd minute off a Joanna Lohman assist as the Philadelphia Independence edged the Atlanta Beat 2-1 Sunday in Women's Professional Soccer play from KSU Soccer Stadium in Kennesaw, GA.

Lori Chalupny put the Heat on top at halftime after Meghan Lenczyk fed a pass to her in first-half stoppage time for a goal.

Philadelphia, in third place in the league's single table standings at 2-1-1 with seven points and will travel to the Boston Breakers this Sunday.

Atlanta, meanwhile, is 1-4-1 with six points and are tied for fourth with the Breakers (2-4-0, six). The Heat travel to Yurcak Field at Rutgers University in Piscataway, NJ to face Sky Blue FC.
