Major League Soccer's DC United announced Thursday they will launch a U-23 team that will not be affiliated with a development league, such as the USL Premier Development League.
The team will play from May 24 until the end of July and will compete against MLS Reserve Division and USL PDL franchises in exhibition games.
The United U-23 will be coached by MLS' all-time scoring leader Jaime Moreno, with DC United Youth Academy coaches Judah Cooks and Nolan Shelton and former DCU U-20 head coach serving as his assistants.
