Crew Signs First Home Grown Player In Forward Horton

Forward Aaron Horton, a native of Lewis Center, OH, became the first player to sign with Major League Soccer's Columbus Crew under the league's Home Grown Player program Tuesday and is the fifth local player on the 2010 roster.

Teams can sign an unlimited number of Home Grown Players, classified as those who spent at least a year with a franchise's youth academy and can join MLS without having to go through the league's SuperDraft process.

In 2007, he spent a year in the US Soccer Residency Program in Bradenton, FL's IMG Acdemy.

He played high school soccer at Olentangy Orange High School, where, in 2009, he broke the single season school record for most goals scored in a season with 30 and was named to the First Team All-State.

He played one season of college soccer at Louisville, leading them to their first NCAA Men's College Cup bid and a run to the national championship game, where they lost the the University of Akron. He has three goals and two assists in 23 regular season Cardinals games.

Horton led Crew Soccer Academy to the 2009-10 season USL Super-20 League national championship title and was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

The Crew also announced Tuesday defender Josh Williams was placed on the Disabled List with a torn right hip labral.
