The best teams at the moment in Major League Soccer -- the New York Red Bulls in the Eastern Conference, the Los Angeles Galaxy in the Western Conference -- met in a 1-1 draw Saturday at The Home Depot Center in Carson, CA.
In a wild first half, Thierry Henry scored his fourth goal in his last four Red Bulls games in the fourth minute, but, five minutes before halftime, Landon Donovan forced New York goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul out of position and fired off an easy, unassisted 40th minute goal to tie the game.
The Galaxy, the defending Western Conference regular season and Supporters Shield champion, hold the top spot in their conference at 4-2-4 with 16 points, leading Real Salt Lake (5-1-0, 15) by a single point. Los Angeles travels to the Philadelphia Union for a Wednesday contest.
The Red Bulls (4-1-3, 15) lead the Eastern Conference by three points over the Columbus Crew (3-1-4) and the Union (4-2-1), both with 13 points. New York hosts Chivas USA next Saturday at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ.
