Eric Brunner's 46th minute goal from Kalif Alhassan was all the host Portland Timbers needed to shut out the Columbus Crew 1-0 in Major League Soccer play Saturday from JELD-WEN Field.
The Timbers, 5-3-2 with 17 points, are tied for second place in the Western Conference standings with FC Dallas (same record) and will host DC United of the Eastern Conference next Sunday.
Columbus, at 3-3-5 with 13 points, is in fourth place in the Eastern standings and will host the Western's Chivas USA next Saturday.
