Michael Balogun scored an unassisted goal in the 21st minute as the expansion Akron Summit Assault shut out the Indiana Invaders 1-0 in the host team's season-opening USL Premier Development League game Sunday at St. Vincent's-St. Mary's School.
Akron is 1-1-2 with five points, good for second place in the Central Conference's Great Lakes Division, two points behind the Chicago Fire (2-0-0, six points) for first place. The Summit Assault hosts the Cincinnati Kings in their next game June 4.
Indiana is tied for last place in the division with the Toronto Lynx and gets to host the Kings Wednesday.
