The Vancouver Whitecaps of the USL W-League announced the return of forward Sydney Leroux, who has played on both US and Canadian national teams, to the franchise she last played for in 2005.
Now 20, Leroux, who has dual citizenship, was, at 15 years, seven days old, the youngest player to ever play for the Whitecaps when she debuted in 2005 in a 2-0 victory against the Arziona Heatwave, where she assisted on the game's second goal. She would go on to play two more times that season and added another assist.
At 14 years old, she was the youngest member of Canada's team that played in the 2004 U-19 Women's World Championship.
Switching to the US, she earned the Golden Shoe (five goals) and the Golden Ball (top tournament player) at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup and is now the team's most capped player and highest scorer on the U-20 team with 30 goals in 36 games.
Leroux made her senior national team debut for the US Women's team this past January as a substitute against Sweden in the 2011 Four Nations Cup tournament in China, which they won.
She has spent the 2008 through 2010 college seasons at UCLA, where she led the Bruins last season in goals and points with 13 and 27, respectively.
In 2009, she tied a single-season record with 23 goals and was a semifinalist for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, which is awarded annually to the best male and female college soccer player.
In 2008, she started 18 of 19 games played, had five goals and six assists for 16 points, and was named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman Team and the Soccer Buzz Third Team Freshman All-American team.
