Whitecaps Women Re-Sign Woeller, Add Trio From U-18 Prospects

The Vancouver Whitecaps of the USL W-League announced the re-signing of defender/midfielder Shannon Woeller for her fourth season and signed Nikki Ambrose, Jacyln Sawicki and Katie Turney, who played in 2010 for the Pacific Coast Soccer League's Premier Women's regular season title, attended training camp with Canada's U-20 national team in preparation for playing in the 2011 CONCACAF U-20 Women's Championship tournament, and were members of Team British Columbia that won the gold medal at the 2009 Canada Games,

Woeller started six of nine games for Vancouver last season but did not register a goal or an assist. She has started 17 of 23 career games for the Whitecaps in three previous seasons.

In all 38 starts for the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights, she has recorded two assists.

Woeller has also started 15 of 17 appearances for the Canadian U-20 national team and played four games for her country's senior women's team.

Ambrose, Sawicki and Turney completed their first seasons of collegiate soccer.

Ambrose made eight appearances for Santa Clara University.

Sawicki was named Female Rookie Athlete of the Year at the University of Victoria in Victoria, British Columbia. She led the team with four goals and started all 14 games in 2010.

Turney started 12 of 20 games for Washington State University and had a goal and an assist for three points.

The Whitecaps open their 2011 season on the road against the Victoria Highlanders May 15 before hosting the Seattle Sounders May 22 at Percy Perry Stadium in Coquitlam, British Columbia.
