The US Women's National Team, ranked number one in the world and winners this season of the Four Nations Cup and the Algarve Cup, suffered their first loss in an international friendly game since 2004 as England defeated them 2-1 Saturday at Matchroom Stadium in London.
It was also the first time the two countries played each other in England and the first time the US has lost to them since 1988.
England took a 2-0 lead on Jess Clarke's unassisted goal in the eighth minute and on Kelly Smith's assist to a Rachel Yankey goal in the 26th minute, while Shannon Boxx assisted Megan Rapinoe on the US' lone goal in the 39th minute.
The US will spend several days training in Scotland before returning home. Their next games will take place against Japan May 14 at Crew Stadium in Columbus, OH and May 18 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, NC.
