After having six assists in his debut season with Major League Soccer and the Philadelphia Union, Roger Torres, with an assist from Danny Mwanga, scored his first career goal in the 68th minute as the Union shut out the New York Red Bulls 1-0 Saturday before a sellout crowd at PPL Park.
The Union, at 3-1-0 with nine points, has the best record in the Eastern Conference and is tied with Real Salt Lake (3-0-0) and the defending MLS champion Colorado Rapids (3-1-0) of the Western Conference for the league's best record so far this season.
Philadelphia will host the Seattle Sounders next Saturday at PPL Park.
The Red Bulls, meanwhile, are 1-1-2 with five points, good for third place in the Eastern Conference standings. New York will host the San Jose Earthquakes next Saturday at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ.
