Major League Soccer's Sporting Kansas City and DC United advanced to the next phase of qualifying to make the field for the 2011 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament by winning play-in games Wednesday and will face each other April 26 at the Maryland Soccerplex in Boyd's, MD.
C.J. Sapong scored the lone goal in the 93rd minute as Kansas City shut out the Houston Dynamo 1-0 Wednesday at Robertson Stadium in Houston.
Meanwhile, at the Soccerplex, after a 2-2 regulation draw and extra time couldn't decide matters, United defeated the Philadelphia Union 4-2 in penalty kicks to win their match Wednesday.
Josh Wolff and Daniel Woolard scored goals for United and Carlos Ruiz and Brian Carroll tallied the Union's efforts.
