Sky Blue's Long Named First WPS Player Of The Week

Sky Blue FC midfielder Allie Long was named Wednesday the first Player of the Week for the 2011 Women's Professional Soccer season.

Long was instrumental in Laura Kalmari scoring a goal in the 36th minute of an eventual 2-2 draw to the Philadelphia Independence Saturday by feeding a pass to Brittany Taylor, who assisted Kalmari on the goal.

It is the first time Long has won a WPS Player of the Week honor and joins Natasha Kai (Week 17 - 2009) and Karen Bardsley (Week 5 - 2010) as previous winners from Sky Blue.

Long played in the league's first two seasons for the Washington Freedom, now relocated to Boca Raton, FL under the new name magicJack.
