Seven Signed By Strikers In Saturday Blitz

The Los Angeles Strikers of the USL W-League announced the signings Saturday of seven players for the 2011 season -- forward/midfielder Eva Dixon, midfielder Nancy Avesyan, midfielder Danny Cardenas, forward/midfielder Frances Boukidis, forward Shannon Suarez, and goalkeepers Amanda Rose Johnson and Erin Frushon.

Dixon, assistant coach of the girls varsity team and head coach of the junior varsity team at South Pasadena High School, where she was a four-time athlete of the year, and an assistant coach of the Pasadena City College women's team, played her college soccer at Cornell, where she was named Most Valuable Player in 2008 and named to the Cornell Red Rey Athlete Honor Society. She also was named to the All-Ivy League Team in three of four seasons there.

Ayesyan returns to the States after playing last summer for Lazio Femminille in Rome, Italy. In 2009, she played in the W-League for the Ventura County Fusion after playing as a freshman at Cal State Northridge in 2008, where she led the offense with five goals and four assists.

Cardenas currently is a freshman at Long Island University after playing high school soccer for Glendale, CA's Cresenta Valley High School, where she led them to two Pacific League titles in 2007 and 2009. She was named to the First Team in 2009. Cardenas also won an Olympic Development Program Region IV title in 2006 with Cal South and played on four Surf Cup title teams and the 2008 National Cup and regional finalists.

Boukidis had two game-winning goals during her freshman season at Northern Illinois University, where she played in all 19 games last season. She was also a teammate of Cardenas at Crescenta Valley and was named the Pacific League's Most Valuable Player in 2010 after leading the league with 11 goals and 12 assists.

Suarez, a freshman at Long Beach State University, played at Saugus High School, where she was on their 2008 Foothills League and 2009 California Interscholastic Federation championship teams. In 2009, she was named to the CIF's All-Federation and All-League teams.

Johnson started 17 of 19 games in goal in her freshman season at New Mexico Highlands University, finishing the season with a goals against average of 1.25, 79 saves, three shutouts and a .806 save percentage.

Frushon had five shutouts and 80 saves for a .825 save percentage and a 0.93 goals against average at Biola University, where she was named to the 2010 All-Golden State Athletic Conference team and to the conference's Defensive Player of the Week and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Player of the Week honors during the season. In 2010, she played in the W-League for the Santa Clarita Blue Heat and had 60 saves.
