RSL Takes Over Best Record In MLS, Western Conference Over Defending Champ Rapids

Paulo Araujo, Jr. fed a pass to Fabian Espindola for a goal in the second minute of second half stoppage time as Real Salt Lake, the 2009 Major League Soccer champion, shut out the defending league champion Colorado Rapids 1-0 Wednesday at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, UT.

The win gave RSL the best record in the Western Conference and in the league overall at 4-0-0 with 12 points and extended their home winning streak to 27 games.

RSL will next host the current Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia Union (3-1-0, nine points) next Saturday.

The Rapids (3-2-0, nine points), who have lost two straight games after winning their first three games, are tied with the Los Angeles Galaxy (2-1-3), the defending Western Conference regular season and Supporters' Shield champion for second in the conference.

The Galaxy and Toronto FC played to a scoreless draw Wednesday at BMO Field.

Colorado will host the Seattle Sounders next Friday at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, CO.
