Luke Rodgers had a pair of goals and assisted on Thierry Henry's blast in the 87th minute as the host New York Red Bulls shut out the San Jose Earthquakes 3-0 Saturday in Major League Soccer play Saturday at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ.
Henry previously helped Rodgers get his second goal in the 15th minute, ten minutes after Dane Richards fed Rodgers his first goal of the game.
New York is 2-1-2 with eight points and tied for second place with the Columbus Crew in the Eastern Conference standings, two points behind the conference-leading Philadelphia Union (3-1-1, 10). The Red Bulls have little time to celebrate their victory, though, as they play again Thursday at DC United.
San Jose, 1-2-2 with five points, is in sixth place in the Western Conference standings and will host Chivas USA next Saturday.
