Paul Nicholson and Alex Grendi had unassisted goals in the 83rd and 93rd minute, respectively, as the host Wilmington Hammerheads broke a 1-1 tie and defeated the Pittsburgh Riverhounds 3-1 Friday in USL PRO play at Legion Stadium in Wilmington, NC.
Luke Mulholland assisted Andryi Budnyy on the game's opening goal in the 56th minute for Wilmington but Jeremy Deighton countered for Pittsburgh with an unassisted play in the 79th minute before the Hammerheads rallied to victory.
The Hammerheads, despite being undefeated at 2-0-0 with six points, is in fourth division in the American Division and will travel to the division and league-leading Richmond Kickers next Saturday.
Pittsburgh is 1-2-0 with three points and tied for the National Division lead with the Rochester Rhinos (same). They will travel to Blackbaud Stadium Saturday to play the Charleston Battery.
