Hunter Freeman ended a scoreless drought for both teams with an unassisted goal in the 89th minute as the host Houston Dynamo shut out the New England Revolution 1-0 Sunday in Major League Soccer play at Robertson Stadium at the University of Houston.
The Dynamo, who moved from the Western Conference to the Eastern this season in order to place the Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps there, thereby allowing a balanced schedule in 2011, are now tied for second place in the conference with the New York Red Bulls and the Columbus Crew, all of whom are 2-1-2 with eight points, three points behind the conference-leading Philadelphia Union (3-1-1, 10). Houston travels to the Chicago Fire Saturday at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL.
New England is 1-2-3 with six points and shares sixth place in the conference table with Toronto FC, who boast a similar record. The Revolution host Sporting Kansas City this Saturday.
