Flash, Bang! Western NY Kicks Off WPS Franchise History

The Western New York Flash, who won the 2010 USL W-League Championship as the Buffalo Flash, made their debut in Women's Professional Soccer successful with a 2-1 victory over the Boston Breakers Sunday at Harvard Stadium.

Christine Sinclair scored the franchise's first goal off an Alex Morgan assist in the 66th minute and Gemma Davison added an unassisted goal in second-half stoppage time for the Flash (1-0-0, three points), tied with the Breakers (1-1-0) and the Atlanta Beat (1-1-0) for the league lead.

Kelly Smith had an unassisted second-half stoppage time goal for the Breakers.

Western New York will face Atlanta next Sunday at the KSU Soccer Stadium in Kennesaw, GA, while the Breajkers face the re-branded magicJack, formerly the Washington Freedom, at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, FL Saturday.
