Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire announced the signing Monday of midfielder/defender Paraskevas "Pari" Pantazopoulous to a contract for the 2011 season after he beat out 210 players from 19 countries to win an open tryout and a roster spot in January.

Born in Athens, Greece, he played the last two seasons in his home country for Zakynthos.

He began his soccer career at age eight when he attended Vrilissia Academy in Athens. His family later moved to Mount Prospect, IL, where he would play for the amateur Green & White (1998-2002) and the Chicago Magic (2002-07) before heading to Cyprus to play the 2007 season at Asyl Lisis.
