City Islanders Sign Defender Basso, Forward Herrick

The Harrisburg City Islanders of USL PRO announced the signings Friday of defender Stephen Basso and forward Jason Herrick.

Basso previously played in the former USL Second Division for Real Maryland FC and Crystal Palace Baltimore, where he played with current City Islander Andrew Marshall. Before heading to USL, the Costa Rican native got an opportunity to play in Germany with SV Darmstadt 98 after going through the youth academy of Major League Soccer's DC United.

Herrick led the Chicago Sockers to four Illinois State Cups and was invited to play for the USL Super-Y League Select Team as well as received an invitation to the 2005 adidas ESP camp.

He then played for the University of Maryland, leading them to a 2008 NCAA College Cup title and himself to All-Atlantic Coast Conference First Team selections in 2009 and 2010. Herrick had 29 goals and 14 assists in starting 85 of 86 career games over four seasons.

This will be his rookie season as a professional.
