The expansion Vancouver Whitecaps opened their temporary home pitch of Empire Field with a pair of goals by Eric Hassli and a goal and an assist by Atiba Harris in a 4-2 victory over Toronto FC Saturday in the first all-Canada game in Major League Soccer history.
Toronto's Dwayne De Rosario, however, scored the league's 8,000th goal at the 20-minute mark, and Maicon Santos assisted on it, then was helped by Gianluca Zavarise in the 74th minute for their only goals.
The Whitecaps will travel to the Philadelphia Union this Saturday, while Toronto FC hosts MLS' other expansion franchise, the Portland Timbers, at BMO Field that day.
