West Texas United Re-Signs One, Adds Six Others

The West Texas United Sockers of the USL Premier Development League announced Thursday the return of midfielder Lukas Garcia and the signing of six newcomers -- midfielder Aiden Hamman, defender Dishon Isaac, goalkeeper Irvin Mendez, midfielder Mariano Sapien, midfielder/defender Tyler Tarango and forward Montiel "Monty" Urias.

Garcia earned numerous awards in high school for Odessa Permian and has been with the Sockers for all three seasons of their existence. In 2010, he had one goal in 14 games after taking seven shots but scoring no points in 2009.

Hamman was a three-time First Team All-District player at Lubbock High School and was named Newcomer of the Year last season at West Texas A&M, where he is majoring in sports and exercise studies with a minor in education.

Issac, a graduate of Pearland High School, is a junior at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX and has played in 18 games in his first two seasons, starting one of those games. He is majoring in business and minoring in Spanish.

Mendez was a four-year letterman at Del Valle High School in El Paso and played in Mexico's third division at Real Magari.

Sapien had 30 goals and 13 assists in his collegiate career at Canisius in Buffalo and has prior PDL experience with the DFW Tornados (2009) and the El Paso Patriots (2010). He also played in Mexico with Indios of Cuidad Juarez.

Tarango is captain of the NCAA Division III McMurray University War Hawks in Abilene, TX and was a teammate of Isaac's at Pearland High School.

Urias was a four-year letterman at Midland Lee High School. In 2006, he was the Newcomer of the Year after leading the district in scoring. He followed that award with an All-Region pick in 2007, First Team All-District honors in 2008 and 2009, and was the team's MVP in 2009 after winning the district scoring title for the second time.
