Major League Soccer's Vancouver Whitecaps announced the signing, for the second time, of defender/midfielder Kevin Harmse Friday.
Harmse, South African-born but also a Canadian, originally played for the Whitecaps in USL First Division in 2003 after being selected 10th overall in the 2003 USL-1 Draft.
Before playing the first time, he was with Tromsa Idrettslag of Norway's Premier League, where he played two games.
Harmse debuted for the Whitecaps in 2004 and had a goal and an assist in 12 appearances. In 2005, he played in 29 of the team's 32 regular season games and had an assist.
He then went to FC Nitra of Slovakia's Superliga, where he started 12 of 13 games.
In 2007, he joined MLS with the Los Angeles Galaxy, then played the 2008 and part of the 2009 season for Toronto FC, before he was traded to Chivas USA midway through the 2009 season. He was then traded to the Houston Dynamo, but left the team before the 2010 season began.
For Canada, Harmse has made nine appearances for his country, including leading them to the semifinals of the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup. He also has scored two goals in five games for the U-23 Olympic Team and led the U-20 team to the quarterfinals of the 2003 FIFA U-20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
